I completed and entered this piece in Summerfest Art Faire‘s annual plein air competition. I started painting this one early evening, trying to time it so I could capture the late, setting sun on what is a well-known Cache Valley icon. Everybody who has ever been through Cache Valley is familiar with this old barn. I remember seeing it back in the mid-1970s when I attended Utah State University, and it’s “Still Standing“ today. Every few years they touch up the "Dr. Pierce's Favorite Prescription" advertisement on the east side of the weathered old barn; kind of a labor of love.
