I was honored to be asked to do a live demo as one of six "Artists of the West" (I represented Utah) during the 2019 Escalante Canyons Art Festival, and this piece was the result. Painting from the vantage point of the Hole in the Rock Heritage Center on a hill east of town, we had a great view in all directions. What grabbed me was the incredibly intense greens of the pastures below us, against the smoky blue of the distant desert ridges, and the warm reds of the soil interspersed with clumps of gray-green sage. I could spend a lifetime painting in this area, and never capture it all...
