I painted this for the annual Helper Plein Air Competition in, well, Helper, Utah. Coming down the canyon alongside the Price River, you come upon these imposing cliffs at what's known as Castle Gate, and at late afternoon the sunlight hits just right on the rocks, with the silvery sparkle of the Price River below, winding through the rocky canyon. At high water during spring runoff, this river has great potential as a very technical run for whitewater kayaking. It's on my list.
