I drove across Utah Valley to where the Jordan River comes out of Utah Lake to paint this one for the Jordan Riverfest Plein Air competition. I'm familiar with this spot, where I've caught lots of fish over the years, and I knew that this late in the day the sunset behind those cottonwood trees would be spectacular, and I wanted to try and capture that. I started painting around 6:00pm, and barely had a couple of hours to finish it before it got too dark to see the colors on my palette.
