This piece was my “nocturne“ entry for the Wasatch Plein Air Paradise competition, painted from the top of Midway’s Memorial Hill around dusk. Memorial Hill is one of my favorite vantage points in Heber Valley. It provides grand views of Midway and the surrounding valley, and it's so quiet and peaceful up there. A gentle summer evening breeze was blowing, the sky's reflection in the glassy mirror of Deer Creek Reservoir in the distance, and the town's lights appearing one by one like fireflies dancing in the twilight made for a fine evening of painting. Okay, it was actually about 2:00 a.m. when I finished, but still...

"Abenddämmerung" is German for twilight, and and speaks to the Swiss heritage of the original settlers' descendants of this area. To me the term fits so much better the feel of this piece than the English word. This painting was quickly snatched up by a collector, but if you're interested in a fine art giclée print, message me from this website's email function, below.
