This one was a "Quick-Draw" piece I did at the close of Midway Art Association's annual Wasatch Plein Air Paradise competition. I whipped it off in less than two hours from a photo I took years ago in a little out-of-the-way place named Vernon, in Utah's west desert. Vernon's main street turns to gravel at the south end of town, then leapfrogs over the mountains and into the Great Salt Lake Desert. I love the way the light filters through that clump of cottonwood onto the grassy fringes of the road!
